An accomplished textile and quilt artist, Melanie Testa learned to love fabric and sewing at a young age while sitting at her grandma’s trusty Singer. She has been reimagining her everyday experiences through artful construction ever since. Whether printing cloth, making quilts or journaling, Melanie’s work enchants with its primitivism and captivates by its uncommon styling. Her collections convey her passion for mixing flora and texture and her unconventional approach to art-making.
Melanie holds a degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology in Textile/Surface Design and exhibits her fiber art at various galleries and quilt shows around the country. Melanie has authored Dreaming from the Journal Page, Transforming the Sketchbook to Art by North Light Press; Inspired To Quilt, Creative Experiments in Art Quilt Imagery by Interweave Press and Quilting Arts Workshop: Print, Collage, Quilt. Look for her most recent book, Playful Fabric Printing, coauthored with Carol Soderlund and published by Crafting a Life, LLC which delves deeply into motif making, color use and printing techniques to achieve gorgeous quilts with a hand printed flair.
Melanie’s debut line Florabunda! is a colorful amalgam of modern roses, tendrils and vines set against an array of textural backdrops. The patterns are accomplished using a variety of artistic techniques including: hand carving, stenciling, fun foam and screen printing, and computer aided design. Shares Melanie, “With Florabunda, I aspired to design traditional florals in a completely different direction to bring you something truly innovative and contemporary. I hope you enjoy my creative approach and your journey to making my fabrics come to life.”
